Function & Application

1. Nimesulide is an anti-inflammatory small molecule inhibitor of Cox (cyclooxygenase). Nimesulide shows selectivity for Cox-2 over Cox-1. Reports have suggested that increased Cox-2 expression may present a survival advantage to cells by inhibiting apoptosis and changing cellular adhesions to the extracellular matrix, and Nimesulide is demonstrated to suppress azoxymethane-induced carcinogenesis;
2. Nimesulide is a relatively COX-2 selective, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with analgesic and antipyretic properties. Its approved indications are the treatment of acute pain, the symptomatic treatment of osteoarthritis and primary dysmenorrhoea in adolescents and adults above 12 years old. It has a multifactorial mode of action and is characterized by a fast onset of action.
